The introduction of the iPhone 5 in Sept sold 5 million units in the first 3 days and bought with it an update to IOS 6 for previous IOS devices. In addition to the many added features and improvements IOS 6 users have also been reporting a few issues with the update.
Some of the issues people have faced with IOS 6 are:
- Higher data usage

Higher Data Usage
Some users have reported that IOS 6 seems to use more data than the previous versions. iCloud and streaming services seem to be the biggest culprits.
Tips for reducing your data usage:
- Use wi-fi when it’s available as it is much cheaper than cellular data
- Turn off iCloud services so they don’t use data while idle:
Select Settings | Select iCloud | Select off for all services
- Turn off notifications for apps that you don’t require eg weather and stock widgets:
Select Setings | Select Notifications | Select applicable App | Set notification centre to off
Higher Battery Usage
A number of users have complained that their battery life does not last as long with IOS 6.
Tips for reducing your battery usage:
- Lower the screen brightness:
Select Settings | Select Brightness and wallpaper
- Close Apps running in the background:
Double Tap the home button | Press and hold an app until it begins to shake | Select the minus sign to close each app.
- Update your apps:
Click on Apps Store icon | Select Updates | Select Update All.
- Set screen auto lock to 1 minute:
Select Settings | Select General | Select auto-lock | 1 minute
- Turn off Bluetooth if you are not using it:
Select Settings | Select Bluetooth | off
- Disable location Services:
Select Settings | Select Privacy | Select location services | Set Location Services to Off
Wi-fi Connectivity issues and Apple Maps Problems
A small percentage of users have discovered that wi-fi connections have been disabled or disconnected. Apple Maps have also caused issues too with misplaced locations and incorrect directions.
