How to Set Folders to Automatically Expand in the Navigation Pane in Windows 7

One issue you may have encountered with the default settings in Windows 7 is that the navigation pane in Windows Explorer no longer “follows you”.  The folders in the Navigation Pane don’t expand/collapse as you double click folders on the right hand side.

 

To reinstate this feature:

  1. Select Windows Explorer
  2. Select Tools | Folder options…
  3. From the General (tab) | select Automatically expand to current folder (check box)
  4. Select OK ( button)
